“Smushi” at The Royal Café

The Royal Café is continuing to attract “everyone” to their hip eaterie in Copenhagen. After a comprehensive renovation of Royal Copenhagen’s flagship store and museum on Copenhagen’s main shopping street Strøget, the café opened in April 2007 under the same roof.

Their secret weapon is “smushi”, a marriage between the typical Danish smørrebrød and sushi. These bite-sized treats, delivered on tiny squares of buttered rye, are served on an updated version of the famous, royal service.

Interiors are signed by famous Danish design firms such as Holmegaard, Bang & Olufsen and Fritz Hansen and guests are met by pink walls and a ceiling with birch-leaf-patterned paper, when they enter the old building from 1616.

The Art of Amusing at Karriere

Karriere is a new kind of café/restaurant/bar where a passion of art is paired with eating, drinking, relaxing and having fun.

The people behind the concept are the artist Jeppe Hein and his sister Lærke Hein. Every single piece of the interior is made of an artist; everything from a cozy sofa for loving people and bizarre lamps to restrooms and a striptease pole on the dance floor. So the credit list is long.

A French top chef is ruling in the kitchen, using only top quality ingredients (oragnic where possible) to create a dining experience. The kitchen team aims to push the culinary boundaries of their guests.

Karriere also puts on DJs, concerts, conversations with artists, sound art, performances, film and video screenings.

And where the art is, the cool people are.

Seafood at The Bubble

The Bubble is pure gourmet seafood and a slice of Philippe Starck. In the old part of Copenhagen, this new restaurant opened in November 2007 in the former Hjorte pharmacy.

The food concept is all kinds of seafood. And as you walk into the restaurant, you can´t miss the huge glass display, filled with oysters, tiger shrimps and virgin lobsters. The interior is partly created by Philippe Starck and flatscreens are showing modern art videos, installed by the media artist Sergei Sviatchenko. Inspired by restaurants in London and Berlin, the owner wants to add something special to their guests experience.

Casual kitchen is a key word, meaning you can just drop by. Perhaps you want to indulge in only one oyster for 25 kroner a piece + a good glass of wine.

Haute Street Couture by H&M

The H&M subsidiary COS (Collection of Style) is now up and running at Østergade in Copenhagen. To match the sleek and sophisticated collections, the interior design is minimal and adorned with evenly spaced garments in taupe, black, white, and the occasional accent color.

COS is the urban fashion haven for the design appreciative who don’t want to pay over the odds for fashion. The clothes are more expensive than H&M and COS prices start where H&M finish. The selection is built on four genres; City, Casual, Lounge Wear and Party.

Their first (flagship) store was launched in London in March 2007 and now COS is sweeping over Europe. COS has nine stores in four countries (Great Britain, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark) and two more are due to open before New Year.
